Tyler Seguin Targeting 2026-27 Training Camp Return After ACL Surgery — But the Risk Is Real
By Justin Erickson ·
A 34-year-old center with 47 games played over two injury-ravaged seasons is promising a September return — and the market will almost certainly price him too optimistically.
As Daily Faceoff reported, Tyler Seguin addressed the media Monday following Dallas' first-round exit against Minnesota, delivering a cautiously optimistic timeline on his torn ACL: roughly nine months, with training camp as the target. That puts him somewhere around September 2026 — tight, but not impossible. What matters for anyone thinking about Seguin's 2026-27 outlook is understanding just how stacked the injury history already is before factoring in ACL recovery at age 34.
Seguin has played 47 games across the past two seasons combined. Hip surgery wiped out 58 games in 2024-25. ACL surgery ended his 2025-26 campaign after just 27 games, in which he managed seven goals, 10 assists, and 17 points at a pace that, while encouraging in flashes, came from a player clearly managing his body game to game. ACL recoveries average nine to twelve months, and the back end of that range becomes far more likely when the patient is on the wrong side of 33, playing a position that demands explosive lateral movement and board battles.
Jamie Benn expressed full confidence in Seguin's commitment — he's already skating and in the gym — and that tracks with Seguin's reputation as a dedicated worker. But organizational optimism and physiological reality don't always align. The Stars are also now a team in transition after a first-round loss, which means coaching staff and front office won't rush a veteran through camp if he shows any hesitation on that knee. A delayed start or reduced workload in the early months is the more probable scenario than a full 82-game Seguin.
From a prop-bet perspective, any early-season Seguin points or goals total set by the books deserves serious scrutiny. If oddsmakers open him at 45-55 points for 2026-27 based on his pre-injury ceiling, that number is built on a body that has given the Stars fewer than 25 full games in two of the last three seasons. Season-long points props, games-played markets, and anytime goal odds in October and November carry meaningful risk on the over side. Seguin at his best was a 60-to-72-point center — but that version of him last existed in 2021-22. Fade any prop line that anchors to that upside without discounting heavily for age, ACL recovery, and accumulated wear.
The sharper play may emerge at the team level. Dallas already leaned heavily on Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson during Seguin's absences, and those two showed they can drive offense without him. If Seguin misses time early — which the nine-month recovery timeline makes plausible, given an early-to-mid September camp start — the Stars' team total and power play production props could be undervalued on nights he's sidelined. Watch how Dallas structures his deployment in the preseason. Any sign of limited minutes or sheltered usage is a red flag for individual Seguin props and a quiet green light for his linemates.
