Matt Duchene is doubtful for the Dallas Stars' season opener against St. Louis on Friday night after suffering a setback with an upper-body injury that has plagued him since the start of training camp. The center, who was initially trending toward availability, has not played a single preseason game and his status for the regular season curtain-raiser has deteriorated as game time approaches.

The injury's origin remains unclear—Duchene missed the first couple of days of camp for what was listed as maintenance before the injury materialized—but it wasn't sustained during preseason action and didn't carry over from last season. Throughout the camp and exhibition slate, limited ice time has been the only option available to him. From a prop perspective, Dallas's offense becomes significantly more dependent on Tyler Seguin and Jason Robertson to sustain scoring volume. Without Duchene's touches on the first power-play unit, the Stars' overall team total drops in value—especially given that St. Louis's penalty kill has been solid in recent seasons. Dallas team total over-unders will likely move down modestly if Duchene is officially ruled out, but the market may not fully price in the cascading effect on their power-play conversion rate (less elite personnel in those minutes means lower goal probability per advantage).
