Bengals Claim LB Swayze Bozeman Off Waivers — Roster Depth Move With No Prop Implications
By Justin Erickson ·
Not every transaction moves a line, and this one doesn't — but understanding why tells you something about how Cincinnati is building its depth chart.
The Cincinnati Bengals have added linebacker Swayze Bozeman to their roster, claiming the second-year player off waivers from the New York Giants, per the team's announcement Friday. The Bengals simultaneously signed undrafted safety Isaiah Nwokobia, a two-move Friday that signals routine offseason roster construction rather than any urgent need.
Bozeman, a Southern Mississippi product who entered the league as an undrafted free agent with Kansas City in 2024, has carved out a niche as a special teams contributor rather than a defensive centerpiece. Across nine career games split between the Chiefs and Giants, he's logged five defensive tackles and four special teams stops — the profile of a core special teamer fighting for a 53-man roster spot, not a starter.
For Cincinnati, this is low-risk depth accumulation. The Bengals' linebacker room isn't one Bozeman addition away from a dramatic identity shift, and nothing about his arrival alters how defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo deploys his front seven. He'll compete in training camp and preseason, where his special teams value is his clearest path to a roster spot.
From a prop-betting standpoint, this transaction is a non-event. Bozeman's presence does not move the needle on any meaningful Cincinnati defensive props — tackles markets, sacks lines, or team totals remain entirely unaffected by a waiver claim at this stage of the offseason. The Bengals' defensive identity heading into 2026 still revolves around what Trey Hendrickson, Logan Wilson, and Germaine Pratt deliver — not a depth claim in May.
The Nwokobia signing is similarly quiet. Undrafted safety additions in the spring are futures plays for the practice squad at best. File both moves under organizational housekeeping and move on.
